It was first adopted in 1866 by both houses of the inaugural [[Parliament of Superior|Parliament]] and officially proclaimed by the newly installed monarch, [[George I of Superior|George I]] as the country's national flag.

Blue, green, white, and yellow are the official colors of Superior, and are all featured on the flag. The blue represents the Superian night sky, while the green represents Superior's vast grasslands and agriculture. The white wavy band represents the country's purity and unity as a nation. The three bumps are associated with the three largest ethnic groups in Superior: the {{W|North Germanic people|Nordics}} ({{W|Scandinavians}} and {{W|Finns}}), the Germanics ([[Anglo-American]]s and {{W|Germans}}), and the Native Americans (the {{W|Sioux}}, {{W|Cree}}, and {{W|Ojibwe}}). The lone yellow star represents Superior's independence, sovereignty, liberty, and freedom.

==Flag design and symbolism==

The flag of Superior was adopted in 1866 to commemorate the creation of the Kingdom of Superior. Its design and colors were selected by the sitting members of the Flag Arbitration Committee, whose designs were recommended before the [[Parliament of Superior]]. The final design which became the current flag consisted of a blue field, with a bottom green band that featured a wavy white line, and a yellow star. Its design and colors are specifically chosen to symbolize the nation's ethnic and linguistic diversity, as well as its geographic features. The golden star is a characteristic common to other Anglo-American flags and officially represents Superior as the Northern Kingdom and simultaneously four attributes: independence, sovereignty, liberty, and freedom. The large blue field was chosen to represent the vastness of the Superian night sky. It also can represent the {{W|Great Lakes}}, particularly {{W|Lake Superior}}, the lake after which Superior earned its namesake. During winters, especially in the northernmost parts of Superior, {{W|polar night}}s and extremely long nights are a normal occurrence. The white wavy band represents the country's purity and unity as a nation.
