<br />The '''Standard Surresi''' language, also known as '''Yêrsur''' or '''Lavenzul''' and abbreviated as '''SS''' or as '''StaSu''', is the official language of the New Surresi Republic and is a common co-official language in Greater Surresia and other neighboring nations. == History                                                                                                        ==
The various languages of the Surresi branched off from the Monbrøvus migration southward out of Northern Surresia. Later, during the 8th, 9th, and 10th centuries Ʋ, a short lived age of imperial colonialism by Surresia led to various southern Ankurian (such as modern-day [[Eskea]], TBD, TBD, and TBD) cultures' languages to affect the Surresi languages. In the 19th and 20th centuries Ʋ, a colonization of present-day TBD led to the development of a distinct phonological divergent language. In the early 56th century Ʋ, [[Assai Kaijin]] explorers from the [[Union of the Red Circle]] discovered Surresia, and the [[Emrit Language|Emrit languages]] that the Assai Kaijin spoke affected the Surresi languages further.

In TBD Ʋ, Yêrsur was made the official language of the New Surresi Republic and was adapted, revamped, and refined for widespread use.

== Geographic Distribution ==
The languages of the Surresi are most commonly distributed throughout the New Surresi Republic, however they are also common within Sartak, Eskea, TBD, TBD, TBD, TBD, and multiple nations in [[Western Assai]], especially within the [[Union of the Red Circle]].

=== Orthography ===
The Surresi alphabet, known as '''Pel''', is an alphabetical writing system which is used to transcribe the Surresi languages. In prehistory, transcription was achieved by a cuneiform writing method through the use of small mallets and bone instruments to etch Pel characters into terracotta or stone tablets. This writing method was likely derived from a primitive system of documenting the number of fowl that the ancient Surresi raised, done by chipping singular arbitrary recesses into wood, stone, or unfired or fired clay to represent one bird. The spelling of each word and the way Pel writing was ordered and stylized had remained virtually unchanged from the time it had transformed into a writing system until Surresia's colonization by the Union of the Red Circle. Today, Pel, like the spoken languages of Surresia, has become highly influenced by Emrit phonology. Emrit orthography has likewise influenced Pel, and Pel is now commonly written in modern stylizations as opposed to being etched in its traditional style.
