The Izlondian Imbrialty was a significant ancient interstellar civilization that existed 5 billion years before the beginning of the common era. A massive and sprawling empire, Izlondia controlled the entire Orion-Cygnus Arm at its peak, with established colonies on 27,630 star systems and a lesser presence in 34,820 more systems. Its capital was the city of Iscandar located on the Imbrialty's eponymous home habitable moon of Izlondia (known as Uingffh in the modern era), moon of the gas giant Kelios; Drori were the only species that populated the Imbrialty, for no other sentient species had naturally evolved during its reign. The Izlondian Imbrialty existed for a total of 3202 Uingffhian years, or roughly two and a half Earth millennia (one Uingffhian year is equivalent to 300 Earth days).

The Imbrialty initially formed from the nonviolent unification of various chiefdoms that constituted the moon Izlondia's superpowers. United under a single power, Izlondia then went on to colonize numerous other celestial bodies; as this occurred, the nation developed wormhole technology, but controversy over destructive uses of said technology caused numerous groups of Drori to emigrate from Izlondia and settle other star systems. This exodus, however, did not prevent Izlondia from advancing further in various technological fields (including the medical field, where advances extended Drori lifespans to roughly a millennia) and continuing to conquer countless other star systems. As Izlondia expanded, it encountered many other Drori stellar powers established by people who had departed during the initial wormhole exodus. Adopting a doctrine of imperialism, the Imbrialty tended to eventually colonize their star systems and gradually absorb their inhabitants' cultures into its own; however, unlike the nations of modern-day Uingffh, Izlondia did so much more slowly and subtly, often only annexing them when they deemed it appropriate (which usually only occurred after several years or even decades of peaceful coexistence). Additionally, some of the more powerful splinter nations - most notably Orberia, Regnelia, and Elsivyre - successfully resisted Izlondian annexation and remained independent up until the fall of Izlondian civilization.

The Izlondian Imbrialty would ultimately begin to collapse around 3,000 Izlondian years after the Imbrialty's formation. With the rise of imbrius Macbeth, Izlondia began pursuing more aggressive foreign policies, restricting democracy in the nation, and deregulating scientific organizations. These changes helped initiate and exacerbate the pandemic of a deadly virus known as Eclipsia as well as the outbreak of a devastating civil war known as the War of the Harvesters. Izlondia's decline culminated in the Baruze accident (First Apocalix) of IR 3099, when an experimental intergalactic wormhole drive malfunctioned and cataclysmically devastated the entire surface of Izlondia. With most of the Imbrialty's government dead and Eclipsia continuing to kill off more Drori, the rest of the Izlondian territories soon fell into disarray. The Izlondian Imbrialty is considered to have officially fallen in IR 3202, with the death of the final imbria, Adroitia, from Eclipsia; all Drori within the Imbrialty's former territories died out around this time.

Though Izlondia fell in IR 3202, the Imbrialty left a lasting legacy across the stars. Most individuals in the Imbrialty died to disease or war after the First Apocalix. However, sizeable groups of survivors escaped to other star systems and formed successor states like the Yangteon Imbrialty and Azra after awakening from cryosleep billions of years later. Additionally, the Gabolarian warrior race produced by Izlondia continued to survive, but also went into long cryosleeps to escape the effects of Eclipsia and the civil wars. But most notably, large surviving groups of Izlondian scientists constructed massive ark spacecraft designed to seed life on other potentially habitable planets and moons - an endeavor that largely succeeded and led to the creation of modern civilizations like those of Uingffh and Earth.

History

The history of the Izlondian Imbrialty is separated into a total of seven ages. Each age spans several centuries (sometimes over a millennia in the case of the Fruiting Age) and is named after a part in the life cycle of a plant, as cultures are often viewed similarly to plant life in Izlondian society.

Seed Age (pre-IR 0)

The Seed Age denotes the Izlondian years prior to the formation of the Izlondian Imbrialty (IR 0). Information about the exact politics and society of pre-Imbrialty Izlondia is limited, but it is known that several chiefdoms controlled Izlondia prior to its unification; known chiefdoms include the expansionist and culturally rich Ceranius, the more isolated yet progressive Norania, and the traditionalist and stratified Urdian. In contrast to most connotations held by the classification "chiefdom," the Izlondian chiefdoms were described as rather peaceful and modern, with both technology and the arts flourishing within their borders (though like modern day countries, Izlondian chiefdoms varied). Most of these chiefdoms were not fully democratic, but their rulers did grant their citizens and communities significant degrees of autonomy, keeping them content. Additionally, most chiefdoms worshipped a patron deity, though in later years, such religious traditions grew into more secular ceremonies as citizens began favoring science over religion.

At some point, the chiefdoms of Izlondia agreed to unite into a single nation-state known as the Izlondian Imbrialty. With the Imbrialty's rise, the Izlondians established a new calendar: Izlondia Record (IR), with the Imbrialty's first year of existence being denoted IR 0. Unlike the unification of the Uingffhian nations billions of years later, the unification of the Izlondian chiefdoms is described as peaceful and nonviolent by most sources, if not involving moderate amounts of political manipulation; some records state that the unification occurred in order to prevent a destructive war that could have sparked between the chiefdoms.

Seedling Age (IR 0-IR 300)

Flowering Age (IR 300-IR 1150)

Wilting Age (IR 1150-IR 1560)

Fruiting Age (IR 1560-IR 2999)

Timbering Age (IR 2999-IR 3199)

New Seed Age (IR 3199-IR 3202)

Government

Izlondia’s exact governmental structure has changed significantly over its long history, but for most of its lifetime, Izlondia existed under a system of government known as an Imbrialty, headed by an individual known as an imbrius. The position of imbrius acts similarly to a monarch, but is not inherently hereditary; instead, the next imbrius is chosen by the current imbrius from a small collection of high-ranking trusted assistants known as adamas. The amount of adamas in an imbrius's inner circle varies, but most imbriuses had 8-12 adamas. Adamas were typically favored based on their talents in not only politics, but also other unrelated fields such as art and music; as such, imbrius succession often acted as a meritocracy. The Imbrialty had no rules explicitly forbidding imbriuses to appoint their own family members as adamas, but in practice, this was only done by imbriuses during Izlondia's earlier ages.
