Tokki Network (often called Tokki Network Channel to avoid confusion with the Tokki broadcast network; abbreviated TNC) is a Sierran multinational commercial cable and satellite company owned by Tokki Television, a division of Tokki Media Holdings. Tokki Network was launched on July 21, 1989, as Tokki's first foray into pay television. Initially just an outlet for Tokki's archive of television and licensed shows (as well as one original production), TNC today focuses on original programming, including adult animation and a children's programming block, supplementing it's lineup with Tokki re-runs and acquired programming from other producers across the Pacific. TNC's success inspired several other Tokki pay channels, including Tokki Business, Tokki Music, and Tokki 24. TNC is based in Tokki Center in Providencia, Gold Coast, sharing many facilities with the larger network.
History
Background
For more than 50 years, Tokki had served as one of the big names in broadcasting. Launching as a radio network in 1930, Tokki would soon enter the television market, where it would rise to become a major force in the Kingdom of Sierra. With the rise of cable came the rise of cable networks, with their own unique programming. Tokki had been interested in this new avenue for broadcasting for a couple of years, with many stations being added to cable systems. It wasn't until 1987 that Tokki began discussing a cable only channel. Tentatively titled Tokki Channel, it would have been an archive of Tokki's networked programming.
Tokki Network's initial lineup began with the following programs:
- Mobile Suit Gundam (Japan, Asahi National Network, English dub by ITC Sierra)
- Kamen Rider (Japan, ANN, English sub)
- Daemyeong (Korea, Korean Broadcasting System, English sub)
- Captain Sierra (Sierra, Sierran Broadcasting Company/Tokki)
- Miura Anjin: English Samurai (Sierra, Tokki)
- Year of the Rabbit: Dae-sung's Journey (Sierra, TNC original)
- Record of the Three Kingdoms (Hong Kong, TVB, English sub)
Programming
Tokki Network airs a variety of programming originating from across the pacific. These include dramas, comedies, and animation. Original programs currently seen on TNC include:
Children's programming
Tokki Network Kids is the network's children's block. Based off of parent network Tokki Kids, TNK targets a slightly older demographic.
