Yang Wenhua (born 10 November 1951) is a Chinese politician and diplomat. He was the Premier of the Republic of China from 2000 to 2004, the first head of government after the fall of the People's Republic of China. Before that he had also been the Minister of Foreign Affairs from 1990 to 1996 and the First Secretary of the Central Committee of the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) from 1996 to 1999. Originally a reformist politician of the CCP, he joined the administration of President Ren Longyun upon the creation of the Republic of China in 2000 as Premier. Yang resigned in 2004 after disagreements with President Ren over his autocratic style of leadership, and has since become one of the leading opposition leaders to the president in China as a member of the Democratic Progressive Party. Since the 2021 Chinese legislative election Yang has been a foreign policy advisor to the Democratic Progressive leadership in the Legislative Yuan.
