The Georgeland electoral district of Smithfield was established by an electoral redistribution in 1964. It is an urban seat in outer Emilypolis with a high proportion of Protestant households and working-class families. It has had only three Members of Parliament since 1964:
- George Oakham (Conservative) 1964-1979
- Peter Frost (Conservative) 1979-1988
- Michael Elderton (Labour/Liberal/Independent/Georgeland Alliance) 1988-
