Paul III (James Paul Thomas William; 31 September 1927 - 19 April 2024) is the former King of Insulaeia between 1950 and 2024. He was the longest serving monarch of any nation.

Paul was born in 1927 at St Peter City Hospital becoming the first member of the Insulaei Royal Family to be born in a hospital rather than a palace. Upon his birth he was made Duke of Oldgate which he held for 15 years. He was educated at King Richard II Private School for his elementary education, and Anderson State School for secondary education. Following his grandfather's death he was appointed Duke of Tamworth and made heir apparent. He attended Tamworth International University studying Geography receiving a master's degree.

After his father's sudden death in 1950 he ascended to the throne as king picking the regnal name Paul III after his great-grandfather Paul II. Upon ascension he became the youngest monarch since the teenage king Edward III from the 18th century. His coronation was held on the 13th May the following year. In 1957, he controversially married Dorothy Powell who was the daughter of Insulaei politician, Theodore Powell. Many citizens feared that the monarchy was being politicised however after 5 months Theodore Powell stepped down as an MP to prevent a constitutional crisis. The couple have 5 children together Joseph, Dorothy, Henry, Elizabeth, and Mary. Throughout his reign he oversaw many changes throughout Insulaeia including the Cold War and ascension to NATO, ascension to the EU, change of currency to the Euro, legalisation of homosexuality, and multiple Prime Ministers including the many Prime Ministerial records.

Notable events throughout his reign include his coronation, his marriage, his wife's coronation, the celebrations of his Silver, Golden, Diamond and Platinum jubilees in 1975, 2000, 2010, and 2020, respectively with the last being cut down due to the Covid-19 pandemic. Paul was the longest-lived and longest-reigning Insulaei monarch as well as being the longest serving monarch of any nation. On the other hand, throughout his reign Paul has faced several times calling for his abdication or the abolition of the monarchy. Notably this came after his marriage to Dorothy Powell, the aftermath of the 1972 election, and more recently the Travelgate scandal.

Paul died on 19 April 2024 after a short illness at age 96. Paul had been the longest serving monarch of Insulaeia. His son, Joseph, ascended to the throne picking the regnal name Richard II. The Prime Minister, Mary Thompson, said in a speech outside Napolis House that Paul III had been "the greatest monarch of modern Insulaeia" and that "heaven has gained a new member". Many foreign officials also paid respects. Republican group, Democracy for Insulaeia, called for there to be no protests til the mourning period is over.
