The government of Georgia is the central government of the Democratic Republic of Georgia. The leadership makes all major policy decisions behind closed doors, which are then implemented by the country's civil service and judiciary. As Georgia is a democratic socialist state and governance is based on the socialist policy of the People's Democratic Party of Georgia. The president must work through various institutions within the government of Goergia.
The government is also confirmed by the Constituent Assembly. The Prime Minister, who appoints the government's ministers, heads the cabinet. The government is dominated by the Bloc of Communists and Socialists, featuring the People's Democratic Party and the more radical Communist Party.
Institutions
Judiciary
The judiciary of Georgia is headed by the Supreme Court, which consists of a Chief Justice and two Assessors, one Chief Assessor and one Deputy Assessor; five judges may be present in some cases. Every court in Georgia has the same composition as the Supreme Court. The judicial system is theoretically held accountable to the Constituent Assembly and the Presidium of the Constituent Assembly when the legislature is not in session. Criminal penalties can be stiff; one of the basic functions of the system is to uphold law and order in Georgia.
People's Democratic Party
The People's Democratic Party of Georgia (PDPG) is the current dominant party in the Constituent Assembly. Officially, it claims to be a {{W|democratic socialism|democratic socialist} party. The highest body of the PDPG is formally the Congress. Although the PDPG is organizationally similar to socialist and communist parties, in practice it is far less institutionalized. It remains allied to the more radical Communist Party.
Compared with other institutions of Georgia, the PDPG remains the most ideological and views itself as the defender of Georgian sovereignty and nationalism, as well as its commitment to a socialist ideology.
Executive branch
Georgia is headed by the President, a post held since early 2020 by Yuriy Chabukiani, who is supported by the Vice President Giorgi Nakashidze. They are served by a cabinet of ministers, headed by a Prime Minister, a post currently held by Mikheil Mildiani.
Legislative branch
The Constituent Assembly is the parliament of Georgia.
Military Court
The Military Procuracy and Military Court were founded in March 1923.
