Malaysia, officially the Malay Federation, is a country in South East Asia and Oceania. Malaysia is an archipelago comprising approximately 17,508 islands. It is populated by over 238 million people and is the world's fifth-most populous country. The nation's capital city is Singapore, while Batavia is it's largest city. Java, the world's most populous island, is home to more than half of the country's population. The country shares land borders with Siam to the north, the Philippines to the northeast and New Guinea to the southeast. Other neighboring countries include Tasmania, Timor, and the Andaman and Nicobar Islands. Malaysia is a multi-ethnic and multi-cultural nation. There are over 300 ethnic groups and more than 700 living languages spoken in the country. The largest - and politically dominant - ethnic group are the Malay, followed by the Javanese.
