The Christian Heritage Caucus is a political organization and right-wing ideological faction within the Christian Democratic Party of Sierra. Founded in 2011, the Christian Heritage Caucus claims to represent the "true and ardent Christian conservative Sierran voter and electorate" and represents a more right-wing faction from within the Christian Democratic Party. The caucus seeks to swing the party in a more Christian conservative direction and is lead by John H. Taylor since its formation in 2011.

History

The Christian Heritage Caucus was formed on April 3, 2011 by John Taylor who announced the formation of the caucus in Phoenix, Maricopa. He founded the caucus in order to represent what he called the "forgotten and devout Christian voter in Sierra" and formed the caucus to give a voice to said group. At the time of its creation, the Christian Heritage Caucus was an unofficial faction that had loose affiliations with the Christian Democratic Party, but in December 2013, the Christian Democratic National Committee held a vote and registered the CHC as an official caucus and political faction of the Christian Democratic Party. Taylor formed the caucus in opposition to then party leader Edgar Walker and his more moderate centrist style of leadership. The party had run candidates in various provincial elections with the intent on getting them elected and to expand their influence within the Christian Democratic Party. In 2015, Taylor had announced his candidacy for party leader in the 2015 Christian Democratic Party leadership election, but had only won 8.2% of the vote and was disqualified from the second round and the election ended in a victory for Paul Laurie.

2018 leadership election

In September of 2018, the Christian Heritage Caucus had grown to 20,000 members and its leader Taylor had now had the needed support to be a major candidate in future leadership elections. During the 2018 Christian Democratic Party leadership election, Taylot announced his candidacy after Maximilien Lavallée had announced his candidacy before. Taylor ran on an ardent Christian right platform promising to fight for tighter abortion restrictions, support school prayer and private religious schools, restricting immigration and to hold a referendum on Sierra's membership in the Conference of American States. Taylor also ran on seeking to work with the Royalist Party and to support the Christian democratic faction within the Royalist Party. Taylor's campaign was in stark contrast to the more moderate, liberal conservative catch-all platform that he was running on focusing on expanding the party and appealing to voters disillusioned with the political status-quo.
