Democratic Alliance (Spanish: Alianza Democrática) is a center-left political party in Central America. It is one of the largest political parties of Central America alongside its rival, the Nationalist Party. It currently served as a opposition party of the government together with the Social Democratic Party, Liberal Progressive Party, and Green Party. The current party leader is the former Second Vice President and current CDI Minority Floor Leader Avelino Jiménez.
It was founded in January 16, 1987 after the unification of some liberal-leaning political parties in Central America. Aside of the Nationalist Party, it is also one of the two oldest surviving political parties in the country. The Democratic Alliance have a full support of American unionism. They supported the Conference of American States and supports the friendly diplomatic relationship to the United Commonwealth. In terms of the country's certain issues, the party supported the same-sex marriage, legalization of marijuana and recreational drugs, gun rights and abortion for rape victims.
It belongs to the opposition party during the leadership of the Nationalist Party and a coalition party under the Social Democratic Party during the presidency of Beatriz Santana. This party is recently elected two presidents in the history of Central America.
