Leonel Aguilar Murillo (born December 6, 1935) is a Central American politician who became the first elected President of Central America from 1987 until 1992. He became an interim governor of Guatemala fron 1986 until 1987 when the FCA was newly-unified since the signation of the Treaty of Sonsonate. He began his political carreer as a member of Guatemala City Council from 1956 until 1966. He became a member of the National Congress of Guatemala from 1966 until 1970. He also began his diplomatic career when he became a Guatemalan Ambassador of the League of Nations from 1970 until 1974, Guatemalan Ambassador to the European Office of the League of Nations from 1974 until 1978, and Guatemala Ambassador in Sierra from 1978 until 1980. During the Central American crisis, he became a Secretary of Foreign Affairs from 1980 until 1985.

Born and raised in Guatemala City, Aguilar graduated from San Carlos University with the degree of law. He was a member of the far-right Republic Union Party and his party at that time was alleged to initiated the death squads againts the Landonists.
