Chippy's Chips N' More is a Placentian fast food chain specializing in chips, fried fish, and other seafood items. Chippy's has four locations across Placentia, with plans to open a fifth in late 2022.
Chippy's was founded by Charles "Chippy" Barnaby, a descendant of English immigrants to Placentia, in 1978. The original location was located in central Saint-Pierre, where Chippy and his wife Gerduza Barnaby also lived. After Chippy died from asbestos-related health issues in 2001, the company was inherited by his only son, Charles Barnaby II, who retains ownership to this day. Since its first expansion in 1988, Chippy's has slowly grown into a keystone of Placentia's fast food scene. A poll taken in 2017 showed that the company was a close second in scores of customer satisfaction to McDonald's.
In 2019, the company became embroiled in what became known as the "Cod Fraud," where it was revealed that since 2001, it had been substituting cod meat with fillers in several of its most popular menu items, including fried cod balls. Despite overwhelming calls to resign, Charles Barnaby II stayed on as company head. The reputational damage to the restaurant chain has been substantial and sustained. Since the COVID-19 pandemic in Placentia began, it has been theorized among Placentians that Chippy's will soon fall into bankruptcy, though these rumors have been outright denied by its leadership team.
