Exhula (Origo Mundi Map Game)

Exhula, also known as the Exhulan Empire, is a large empire run by an emperor, which has existed for over 700 years. Although Exhula is largely a naval power due to its center and capital being an island, the acquiring of many vast lands over the past decades has seen an increasing amount of Military power in addition to the very strong navy.

History

Founding

Exhula was founded over 700 years ago on the island of Haeelos, when many of the nomadic tribes of the central island fled to coastal regions to escape the eruptions of the volcanic Mount Ilyivit and formed a city and military alliance to mutually defend and benefit each other through trade. However, none could agree on who would be their new ruler, and so it was decided that each ruler (a Syvotr) was to be elected after each monarch's death, but that during this time they would hold absolute power. This system allowed Exhula to prosper through trade for over 600 years before the Syvotr Jdáih I came to power.

The Age of Conquest (10-83)

After the ascension of Jdáih, Exhula, with vastly improved ships from the work of the last Syvotr, began a rapid campaign of exploration and colonization of the area around it. First, a pair of small islands was discovered named Sythri and Hakkran, which were easily conquered and assimilated. However, within the decade explorers made another, far more interesting discovery - a large coastline existing near Exhula. This was the region that would latter become known as the Ettyian Coast, and it would be rapidly colonized by Exhulan settlers over many years after. However, it was feared that these settlements would take a long time to develop so to avoid conflict and gain greater population Exhula offered vassalage to the few different tribes in the area. Only the largest of them, the Sarthari, accepted this, but they were rapidly settled in the Sarthari Peninsula (which was named after them), which saw a huge surge in population due to this and resulted in the colony there, Aryya, becoming the second largest city in the empire. The rest of the tribes were driven out, killed, or captured and enslaved during the colonization, and due to their low population they were unable to resist effectively. over the following decades that coast would receive tens of thousands more colonists and rapidly expand in population. This time also saw the conquest of the major island of Clorrtil, which, despite many colonists dying, would be successfully colonized, with the many natives being enslaved or killed and a large rebellion being crushed. Exhula would also see many cultural changes during this time, such as the introduction of wall painting and bark art from the natives of Sythri and Hakkran and the changing of much of the dialect and customs of Exhula through mixing with Sarthari, the first recorded use of and domestication of horses by the Exhulan civilization, and the introduction of an alphabet for Exhulan, which was mostly taken from the Clorrtilans and adapted to the Exhulan language. This time saw two Syvotyr's, Jdaih and Syphax III. After Jdaih's death many of his children tried to claim the throne and were killed, although the branch from his third wife, the daughter of the Sarthari leader, survived and became the rulers of the vassal city of Syttrio. Although, of course, this did not last forever.

The 12-Year Plague (83-92)

Although the age of Conquest was a glorious time for Exhula, it also had severe unintended consequences. Specifically, after the enslavement of most of Clorrtils native population, they were scattered throughout the empire. However, many of them suffered from a deadly and highly infectious skin, throat, and respiratory disease that came to be known as Yttrithis. This disease spread rapidly into the population of Exhula and its colonies from the slaves and killed many thousands of people throughout the nation. This was seen as the wrath of the gods by many and Syphax was forced to brutally put down many small revolts. However, this resulted in even more instability until eventually a prominent general named Ipopax launched a successful coup against the Syvotr on the pretext of wishing to end the plague and Syphax obviously being disfavored by the gods. He captured Syphax and his family and had them ritually drowned at sea as a sacrifice to the gods. However, by the time the plague was ending it had been two years and a charismatic preacher by the name of Lorgar was able to overthrow Syphax, who he blinded and had exiled. This period also saw the first discovery and opening of trade and diplomatic relations with Qera, a latter ally of the Exhulas.
