List of emperors of Aotearoa

This list of emperors of Aotearoa presents the traditional and historical order of succession. Historical documentation of earlier reigns were compiled by the pre-Maori tribes known as the Tuatahi. According to the the religious traditions of Aotearoa, Tsamak established Madjavay, the first kingdom on Aotearoa in 450 BC and holds that the current monarch is a descendant of Tsamak. Between 1100 and 1200 AD the Māori settled the islands and established their own kingdoms in competition against the Tuatahi. This list follows the 1318 succession of the Madjavay princess Tjagul and the Ngāpuhi prince Raatana.
