He was born the second son and child of Earl Beowulf Eadywnson and Aethel Cenyedd, having an older brother, Edwyn, and a younger sister, Matilda. Upon his birth, he was made a lord of the House of Eadywnson and was second-in-line to the earlship, following his brother. In his youth, Aedward was an adventurous and rebellious child, routinely disobeying the commands of his father in the pursuit of adventure outside of the settlement walls. At the age of eight, Aedward became ward and squire to Lord Arthur of the House Delawyn, a vassal family of House Eadywnson. At the age of thirteen, Aedward was betrothed to Arthur's daughter, Aethel Delawyn. The two married on Aedward's sixteenth nameday.
Upon his brother's ascension to the earlship, Aedward was made first in the line of succession, though at the time this was viewed as temporary as Edwyn was expected to have children. In -3 AR, Aedward joined his brother in rescuing his sister from the Order of the Siblings, a heretical cult of the Faith of Four. It was reported that Aedward was the one to rescue Matilda from the cultists, though he was supported by his brother, who reportedly slew over fifty cult warriors. In the same year, Aedward embarked on a year-long voyage, returning in -2 AR to assist in the evacuation of Wulfsport, which had come under siege by a heathen host of over a thousand men.
Life in Urulia
Because of his skills in ship faring, Aedward was appointed commander of the Aletheian flotilla, and was entrusted by his brother with the task of finding a new homeland for the Aletheian people. In 2 AR, four years following the abandonment of Wulfsport, Aedward discovered the continent of Urulia . It is unknown exactly how Aedward discovered Urulia, but it is believed that he had previously discovered the continent while on his first voyage in -3 AR. He led a small party in scouting the mouth of the River Bretlestone a week before the Landing of the Aletheians.
Aedward was one of the many lords in attendance during the first reading of the Proclamation of the Bretlestone, where the three remaining great houses of Old Aletheia, House Eadywnson, House Redfield, and House Reever, established the great council. With the establishment of Anecaster, Aedward took it upon himself to establish cordial relations with the native Urulians in the area, becoming the first Aletheian to visit Leiftown and Anesforth, now known as Reevesport and Reddingforth. According to his personal writings, Aedward had a great fondness for the native Urulians, and believed that cooperation between them and the Aletheians would be beneficial for the long term. His views were not shared by the other Aletheian lords, who pushed for the expulsion or assimilation of the native population.
Despite his positive feelings towards the native Urulians, Aedward joined his brother in the war against Rollo of Leiftown and his heathen army. Aedward was present at the Battle Upon-the-Hill, where he witness the death of Rollo at the hands of his brother. Aedward was influential ensuring the cultural and religious independence of Leiftown and Angelsforth following their annexation into the Council of Anecaster. However, after both cities unsuccessfully attempted to rebel against the Aletheians, he was unable to prevent the Edict of Four, which ordered the forced assimilation of conversion of the native Urulian peoples in Anecaster.
In 15 AR, Aedward was tasked by his brother in establishing relations with the nations of the Lordstrom Lake, which had remained unaware of the presence of the Aletheians in the east. Aedward was selected by his brother for this task due to his vast understanding of the native Urulian cultures compared to other lords and for his positive attitude towards non-Aletheians. Aedward and his family first arrived in TBD, where he was hosted by TBD. He also established correspondence with High Priest Múrs IV in an attempt to establish religious peace between the Faith of Four and Arlianism. For his efforts, Aedward was made a close advisor to his brother, and was granted property in Reevesport by Lord Arthur Reever, head of the House Reever.
