Fictonia is a collaborative, fictional world and role-playing project somewhat based on the United States. The main purpose of the project is severe weather and storms. The project was founded on August 25, 2023.

History (In real time)

August 2023

On August 25, 2023, Diamond created a new map in Scribble Maps. He then drew some rivers, a lake, and then created a county. Green County was the first county created. He then drafted up a few more counties before saving the map. Diamond originally wanted to call the map “Fictional”, but misspelled it and instead called it “Fictonia”. He saved it anyway, thinking it was actually a good name for a hypothetical world. Fictonia then began to rapidly expand. More and more counties would be added over the next few days at the request of members of a discord server. This is also the time where the National Weather Service office in Greenville-Spartanburg became a thing, and served the northern part of the state of Fictonia.

September 2023

On September 1, 2023, official daily tracking of hurricanes began. The first daily outlook was made on this day, and the first storm of the 2023 Fictonia hurricane season, Andrea, had formed. He then continued tracking these storms daily. More storms then formed, including the strongest storm of the season, Chiri, peaking at 190mph winds and a pressure of 896mbar. Beginning roughly around September 16, 2023, he then began creating more states in Fictonia. This was so Diamond could expand the area that people could inhabit in the world of Fictonia.

Rest of 2023

Most of the year in October, November, and December was relatively quiet. A moderate risk was in place on December 9th, however it did not perform as expected. Fictonia became relatively quiet for the rest of December.

January 2024

In January 2024, Diamond started a tradition where he would add at least one state in the map every month. For January, he added the state of Florence. Originally when it was first introduced, only a few counties in eastern Florence were visible. However an update to the map on January 13th filled the rest of Florence. This same day, the state saw a large severe weather event, the largest in its history.

February 2024

Many more states were added to the map in February, such as the rest of Valencia, most of Deltaland, some of Epsilon del Norte, most of Fictonia, and more. There were a few significant severe weather events during this period, one of which being the largest outbreak of tornadoes in Valencia history, on February 25th.

March 2024

The first four days of March were dedicated to paying extremely close attention to what appeared to be a very strong storm system moving through Fictonia sometime around March 5th. This prompted eventually a Day 3 MDT and later on a Day 2 HIGH risk to be issued by the Fictonia Storm Prediction Center. On March 5, 2024, a day 1 high risk was issued for much of the region. This high risk would produce many tornadoes, including some significant ones such as the Fictonia-Valencia EF4, the James City EF4, the Northumberland EF5, and many others. This would become the largest outbreak in Fictonia at the time. Comparing the rest of March to the March 5th event, it was mostly quiet. This was also a time where he got extremely sick which caused Fictonia to be slightly less active than normal in mid-March. On March 23, 2024, Diamond began telling his group chat dedicated to the work of Fictonia that he wanted to make a new warning layout. He first tried this by coloring the background of normal warnings. Diamond didn’t like this design however, so he instead decided to make all warnings like the design seen in IEMBot. This was much more successful as it is the layout still used to this very day for all warnings in Fictonia.

April 2024

April was one of the most active months for Fictonia. Some notable events that occurred in April 2024 include the April 12-13 flash flooding event, the April 20th derecho, and the April 27th damaging wind event. The April 20th derecho had the most alerts in one day out of any alert, with over 40 alerts. April 2024 has more alerts than any other month in Fictonia history. A few other significant parts of the Fictonia project emerged in April 2024. Some of these include the Google Sheets database of all Fictonia warnings, the Interactive Google Slides of all Fictonia warnings, and more. Diamond also created an X/Twitter account for Fictonia on April 29th.

May 2024

May was another active month for Fictonia. Most events throughout the month were small, except for one, being the May 14, 2024 tornado outbreak. This outbreak caused one of the largest scares in the project's history, with an Evacuation Immediate being issued in much of the map due to a tornado destroying the Bradford County Power Plant in Bradford County, Valencia.

June 2024

June was the most active month in history for Fictonia. At the beginning of the month, historic events were happening nearly daily. The most significant event of the month took place on June 6th, with a derecho. After the first week, the month began to slow down, but events still happened every so often.

Near deaths of Fictonia

January-February 2024

Overall, in late January, Diamond had begun to feel that the Fictonia project was becoming unstable. This later became true as on February 2nd, he released a statement that a 6 month anniversary event of Fictonia would be canceled. The following day, he announced that Fictonia would be suspended indefinitely, and Diamond was preparing to kill off the project. This was for a few reasons, mainly due to the project being extremely unstable. However it was at this time that he was timed out from a Discord server for a whole week, which had a lot of Fictonia supporters in it. This really annoyed him, so he kind of reacted out of anger canceling the anniversary and eventually almost killing off Fictonia. Diamond received an overwhelming amount of support on February 3rd and February 4th regarding the project. He even had a few people reach out asking if they could take over the project. He however declined all of these. On February 5th, Diamond stated that the project was revived. This was towards the end of his timeout in that server, and plus I felt that with some changes in Fictonia, the project could become stable again.

Early June 2024

During the event on June 3, 2024, Diamond began to become extremely stressed, tired, and annoyed. He was fed up with the event as well as some members. Many people wanted the event to keep going, which annoyed him to the point of leaving the Fictonia server entirely, and giving ownership to ChaoticToast for a time. During the time of Diamond not being in the server, people running the National Weather Service offices continued on with the event anyways. The event continued until Diamond returned a few hours later, where he voided all of the alerts that were issued after he left.

Drama of Summer 2024

In the middle to the end of June, a lot of drama began to take place throughout parts of the weather community, some of it spilling into the Fictonia discord server. Several conflicts took place between members in the server, which caused many people to leave, and Diamond's motivation to rapidly decline. A few raids almost took place in the server into July, as well as more drama incidents. In the middle of July, further drama caused Diamond to lock most channels in the Fictonia server, as well as cancel the documentary planned around that time. Diamond ended up leaving the server on July 18th, and returned the next day. Sprite was in charge while he was gone. More raid scares took place in late July into August. One last drama incident on August 5th took place throughout the weather community, involving Diamond and a few of his friends. As August progressed, the drama slowed, and the project recovered.

Scare of October-November 2024

After the Fictonia website was taken down in mid-October, Diamond had lost some motivation for the Fictonia project. This loss of motivation continued over the following days once he found out that he unexpectedly got a job, and thought he would have to work a lot, taking away all of the time for Fictonia. In late October, Diamond left the Fictonia server once again for a few days to take a break. Garfield was in charge while he was gone. Into November, hope was being lost for the project to remain, and on November 10th, an official message was announced mentioning the "end of Fictonia". A few days later though, this message was retracted, and an update was given, stating the project would live. Around this time, some major drama also took place within the Fictonia server, which made things difficult once again for Diamond, but he continued. The project continued to grow through the rest of November into December, and was fully revived.
