This article is a start-class article. It needs further improvement to obtain good article status. This article is part of Altverse II.

The Italian Republic is a multi-party socialist republic represented by numerous political parties on the national level. Unlike other contemporary socialist states, Italian politics is not dominated by a sole ruling party representing the revolutionary vanguard, but instead is organized as a Multiparty People's Democracy under defensive democratic conditions preventing anti-socialist organizations. On the national level, the Italian Parliament is divided between the Senate of the Republic and the Chamber of People's Deputies. The Senate is elected directly via a proportional representation ranked voting system, while the Chamber of People's Deputies is elected by regional councils, trade unions, and mass organizations via a mixed-member majoritarian system, with mass organizations being guaranteed 200 seats at any given time. Italy also uniquely has a small number of senators for life, consisting of former state leaders and distinguished citizens.
