Its core territory, situated on the floodplain of the Danlei, is bordered by the Isan plateau to the north, the highlands of Champa to the east, the Great Gulf to the south, and the Cardamom Mountains and Tai riverlands to the west. The sprawling temple-city of Angara has served as Kambuja's capital for most of its history, but Srei Sarchhor was made the provisional capital in 1431, after incessant Ayutthayan raids.
