Kambuja
Kambuja is a kingdom in mainland Suvarnabhumi, and the primary realm of the Kmer people since its founding in 802 CE. Its core territory, situated on the floodplain of the Danlei, is bordered by the Kui plateau to the north, the highlands of Champa to the east, the Great Gulf to the south, and the Cardamom Mountains and Siam riverlands to the west. The sprawling temple-city of Angara has served as Kambuja's capital for most of its history; however, Srei Sarchhor was made the provisional capital in 1431 due to Ayutthayan raids.
Name
The country, newly unified by Jayavarman II, was given its name in reference to the Kamboja Kingdom of ancient India, which featured prominently in Hindu literature. Such a naming convention was common practice throughout the region (see Ayutthaya, derived from Ayodhya).
