The Workings of Interstellar Intercontinentalism is a book by Sierran science and historical fiction writer Spencer Zerx about the history of the First Interstellaire, the government of the United Commonwealth, and the Grand Jersey Apotheosis theory. It alleges that the United Commonwealth government developed public transportation as a means to facilitate interdimensional travel and to advance the ideology of Marxist–Landonism across multiverses. Zerx claims that there were a number of documented time traveling incidents, all centered around New Jersey and that the Continental government successfully experimented time travel and interdimensional travel, and that the state of New Jersey does not actually physically exist, but is instead a simulated nexus and wormhole to other worlds. According to Zerx, the Continental government works for the Transversal Horde, an interdimensional cabal seeking to install a socialist grand over.
First released in June 2011, it received mixed reviews from news media but became a Porciúncula Times bestselling book. It is frequently cited by proponents of anti-United Commonwealth conspiracy theories. It has been the source of controversy because it has been used as a source for political conspiracy theories during 2020s elections in the Kingdom of Sierra, Superior, Astoria, and Brazoria.
Background
Spencer Zerx is a prolific novelist and conspiracy theorist whose work includes science fiction and historical fiction works. He has also written entries on conspiracy theories surrounding Woody Guthrie and the Guthrie diaries, the history of the RIA and its black sites, and paranormal and cryptozoology topics. He gained prominence after writing A Rainbow Revoked, a fictional novel that was an alternate historical account of Great War I where the United Commonwealth successfully invaded and overthrew the Sierran government. He was also a supporting writer of the anthology series Merveilles des Mortes. Beginning with the 2012 book Sendu Irhibi: Declassified, Zerx began to promote the theory that an alien race known as the Zidd were influencing real world politics. He then gained a reputation as a conspiracy theorist, and a term he initially rejected but later embraced.
Around 2014, Zerx began to publish critical content about the United Commonwealth and Landonism in general. He became a close confidant to Irish-Continental writer Thomas Bobblehat, who had garnered controversy within the United Commonwealth for his views. Zerx and Bobblehat were significant advocates of Woody Guthrie-related conspiracies. Zerx's research into the conspiracy theories allowed him to formulate and synthesize the ideas that would become part of The Workings of Interstellar Intercontinentalism.
Synopsis
In the work, Zerx discusses the history of the United Commonwealth during the interwar period between Great War I and Great War II during the governments of Seamus Callahan and Amelia Fowler Crawford. Zerx claims that the Continental government, especially under the leadership and direction of Crawford, developed technology capable of interdimensional travel and time travel. He claims that the shooter during the Six Affair in Eucallipolis was an escapee from a Continental experiment who unwittingly witnessed the truth behind six different alleged time traveling incidents: the founding of Bell Labs (1925), the Montauk Project (1943), the disappearance of an alternate version of Woody Guthrie to murder Adolf Hitler (1961), the Lebanon lights incident (1980), the Flynncident (1999), and the purported Princeton Project (2018–19). According to Zerx, the Six Affair resident's remark "They bring your midnight" was a reference to a future cataclysmic event based in New Jersey. In each of these incidences, the events occurred within or near the state of New Jersey, forming a near-perfect pentagram centered on Princeton. He advances the theory of the Grand Jersey Apotheosis which posits that the state of New Jersey was converted into a central hub for interdimensional travel between worlds by the Continental government and Princeton has become the main nexus for the Transversal Horde. According to Zerx, the Creedmoor or the Transversal Horde, is an interdimensional socialist grand order that has conquered multiple universes and intends to place its next capital in this universe in New Jersey. Zerx claims that since the Six Affair, the original, physical state of New Jersey has been replaced by a "decoy" simulation. The original New Jersey is currently undergoing cleansing or "apotheosis". Zerx further claims a number of holy books including the Biblical books of Daniel and Revelation as supportive of this predicted event.
Critical reception
The Workings of Interstellar Intercontinentalism received mixed reviews. Vanguard editorial review wrote that the book was "seminally entertaining and immersive" but cautioned readers not to use the book "for any college essays or serious research". The Porciúncula Times reviewer Anthony Holbrooke praised Zerx's storytelling and rhetoric but criticized the book's theories and historicity. "If this book was meant to be fictitious, then this would stand as Zerx's finest work yet. However, if this book was meant to be treated seriously as historical fact, and it certainly appears to be framed as so, then it is completely scatterbrained and schizophrenic". The Sierra Critic gave a harsher review stating, "Compared to previous Zerx works, amid the sea of polemics and screeds, one will find scant evidence for anything he advances. Zerx makes no attempt to hide behind subtleties and openly delves into pure conspiratorial bullshit."
