Redguards

The Ragada, colloquially known as the Raga and by the exonym Redguards, are a mannish people of Hammerfell, descended from those who migrated from Yokuda in the First Era.

Name

Their name stems from the Ra Gada, the great wave of Yokudans who sailed to Tamriel in the First Era. The Yoku designation Ra Gada was corrupted by the Nords into Rödgarder ("red-guards"), and translated by the Imperials as rugardes, with Nibenese prefix ru- meaning "red" (as in Rumare; "red lake/sea").
