Mechanicum Prime ,offically the Collective of Mechanicum Prime, is one of the main planets that is part of the Erebellum Military State alliance. Former known as Outpost 3 by Z-Tech during the exploration of the Multiverse as the Gardern war raged on, it was an ice world that was selected by a joint UFN-UFT scientists for terraforming the Outpost to make it habitable for a future colonization attempt using a prototype terraforming Helix device. However, the project didn't go as planned, instead of bringing life, the outpost was mechanized and virtualized as the helix device unleashed a Techno-Organic Virus, a growing organism that converts living or once-living tissue into animate technology, ultimately consuming its host entirely. Only 10% percent of the colonists escaped while the rest fell to the virus, leaving the outpost abandoned thus was covered up. Years later however, as the UFN had conducted its yearly census, it was discovered that the world and its now mechanized population has prospered being totally devoted to industry and has now allied with the Military State.
Mechanicum has constructed a massive saturn-like complex of orbital shipyards, refineries and construction facilities that encircles its equator called the Ring of Iron. It is considered one of the largest known man-made structure in the known multiverse. The exploratory and expeditionary fleets of the Mechanicum were constructed in the orbital shipyards of the Ring of Iron during the mid 2080s.
Topography
The planet is slightly too far from its sun, with temperatures constantly cold creating deep layers of snow and ice. Prominent geographic features faced by colonists in the Garden War included vast open snowfields and frozen lake beds, as well as scattered mountain ranges and open pools of exposed arctic water that could freeze a careless settler in seconds.
The majority of the Forge World's solid ground surface is covered in thousands of years of built-up, massive industrial complexes: great machine factories, production centres, huge volcanic furnaces, skyscraping chimneys, abyss-like quarries and the great workshop-fortresses of manufactoria. No other world can match the quality and quantity of the forge world's output.
The population of Mechanicum is invariably immense, the majority directly involved in the industry of the planet, laboriously working in factories and involved in heavy mining. The result of the planet's complete industrialization means its ecosystem has been completely destroyed. The air is saturated with toxic gases and rivers flow with toxic run-off from factories. In many cases, even seas and oceans have been dried up to make room for more factories. However, the output of forge worlds is absolutely vital to the world as a whole.
History
Before the accident
Outpost 3 appeared as a unhabitable planet, at least capable of sustaining human life from space stations on the surface. From a brief look prior to the Helix accident, it was an arctic wasteland, there were miles of dead rock, no night or day, and no atmosphere. In 2051, Germans Hans Amstark and Otto Emmerich became the first individuals from earth to reach the planet. Touching down on a place known as the copper Bowl, they helped set up the foundations of the first outpost Base. By 2060, the base has become a sprawling complex, with a military space base and city set up.
eventually the outpost was selected by a joint UFN-UFT scientists for terraforming the Outpost to make it habitable for a future colonization attempt using a prototype terraforming Helix device, However, the project didn't go as planned.
helix accident
During work by the Joint commission, the Helix device was activated but suffered a malfunction and was corrupted. Instead of bringing life, the outpost was mechanized and virtualized as the helix device unleashed a Techno-Organic Virus, a growing organism that converts living or once-living tissue into animate technology, ultimately consuming its host entirely. Only 10% percent of the colonists escaped while the rest fell to the virus, leaving the outpost abandoned, the "helix accident" was covered up to avoid backlash.
Much of the Mechanican population retreated underground, as any who were not equipped with a radiation and life support suit could not long survive on the Planet's harsh surface.
After accident
Outpost 3, now mechanized, with its human-made infrastructure remained intact, including the electrical grid, allowing the now Techno-Organic population to rebuild. Years later however, as the UFN had conducted its yearly census, it was discovered that the world and its now mechanized population has prospered with the planet having blue oceans of water, grey/black continents, and clouds were visible in the atmosphere, which suggests that it has an atmosphere similar to our Earth. Outpost 3 had been terraformed and its population had formed the Collective of Mechanicum Prime.
In that time, one faction emerged dominant over all the others that had contended for dominion over the world -- the Mechanicum collective. Believing deeply in a strange motive which had driven them mad by their prosthetic enhancements, beliving to achieve a higher meaning is to be embodied with advanced technology and machines, the Mechanicum established its rule over Mechanicum Prime and erected massive new manufactorums and hive cities across the world, divided into different city-states known as forges or forge cities. Each forge was ruled by a high-ranking Tech-General, and the entirety of the Mechanicum's hierarchy bowed to the high leader known as the Fabricator-General of Mechanicum Prime.
