Field Marshal Egon Liebrecht (born 5 September 1938) is a retired Superian Royal Army officer. He served as the Chief of the General Staff, the head of the Superian Royal Army, from 1994 to 1997, and as Supreme Allied Commander America from 1997 to 1999. His career spanned the Second Great War and the Cold War, and his other senior posts included as Commander Land Forces from 1992 to 1994 and commander of the NATO Northern Army Group from 1989 to 1992.
Early life
He was born in 1938 in Cedréville, Iowa, and graduated from the Royal Military Academy New Hanover in 1959, being commissioned as a second lieutenant in the 4th Royal Tank Regiment.
Military career
From 1959 to the outbreak of Great War II in 1961 Liebrecht was stationed in Regina with the regiment. His unit was later one of the Superian units deployed to assist Allied forces, especially Sierra, in the island-hoping campaign against the Japanese Empire in the Pacific. The 4th Royal Tank Regiment saw action in the Southern Pacific campaign, being deployed in the Soloman Islands from September 1962 to April 1963 and former German New Guinea from then until February 1964. Liebrecht was promoted to first lieutenant in December 1962 and to captain in August 1964, for his role in the campaign. In late 1964 he was part of the Combined American Corps, consisting of Superian, Astorian, and Alaskan units that were to be deployed along the Sierran Royal Army for a planned invasion of the Japanese home islands, but the invasion never materialized as Japan signed a conditional surrender.
After the war he returned to Superior and was stationed in Lansing, becoming a battalion commander. In 1968 Liebrecht was promoted to major and was assigned as an operations staff officer of the 6th Tank Division. In 1970 his unit participated in the Colombia War alongside Sierran and Astorian units, being deployed in the Andean states of Ecuador and Peru until 1973. During operations in the Andes he became a Knight of the Military Order of Ernest Augustus. Afterwards he attended staff courses at the Superian Forces College until 1975, becoming a lieutenant colonel. Liebrecht was the chief of staff of the 3rd Tank Brigade from 1975 to 1977, and then became the chief of operations for the 6th Tank Division. Promoted to colonel, from September 1980 to December 1982 he was a deputy military attaché at the Superian Embassy in Seattle, Astoria, and then the military attaché in Topèque, Tournesol until November 1984. Liebrecht served on the Royal Tank Forces Inspectorate of the Army General Staff (then the Land Forces Command) from 1984 to 1987. He was promoted to major general in January 1984 and to lieutenant general in March 1987. From 1987 to 1989 he commanded the I (Superian) Corps, one of the two main Superian Army formations within the country.
In July 1989 Liebrecht was promoted to general and became the commander of the NATO Northern Army Group, which included I and IV Corps and whose area of responsibility covered most of the Superior-United Commonwealth border. In that role he effectively oversaw the defenses of the Superian homeland in a potential conflict with the Landonist Bloc, along with the Royal Army's Home Command. In August 1992 Liebrecht became the Commander Land Forces, responsible for the operational readiness of Royal Army forces in both Superior as well as those stationed with the Central Army Group. In February 1994, he became the Chief of the General Staff, the head of the Superian Royal Army, and in January 1995 he was promoted to Field Marshal as well as becoming a Commander of the Military Order of Ernest Augustus. In June 1997 he was appointed as the Supreme Allied Commander America, overseeing all NATO military forces in the North American continent. In December 1998 Liebrecht was given the honorary title Aide-de-camp General to the King. He stepped down from his post and retired from the military in January 1999.
Later life
From 1999 to 2006 he was on the Royal Council of Superior as a military advisor to King Christian. Since his retirement, he has lived in Summerset, Iowa.
