The 2025 Uppasala gubernatorial election will take place on March 3, 2025, to determine who will be elected to serve as the governor of Uppasala. Incumbent governor Larry Parker announced in September 2022 that he would not run for re-election in 2025 despite being eligable to do so, leaving the office open in the next election. Due to the numerous controveries under Parker during his tenure as governor and several political developments within Uppasala state politics in recent years, the race is expected to be competitive with both the Progressive Bloc and Conservative Coalition preparing to commit significant fundraising and resources into the race.
Background
Uppasala has traditionally favored the Liberal Democratic Party and has historically been classified as a red state as a result. In 2013, Larry Parker was first elected governor and won by a solid margin of 11.3%. He would be re-elected in 2017 by a smaller margin of 4.3% in a deeply competitive race. Various controversies had emerged that year surrounding allegations of corruption, abuse of power, cronyism, and favoritism to Uppasala's urban electorate and population at the expense of its suburban and rural residents which would contribute to the United Conservative Party winning control of the Uppasala State Legislature in 2017 despite Parker winning the election overall.
