Wright would enter politics in 2004, becoming a member of the House of Commons for Thousand Oaks as a Royalist. However, in 2008, Wright would be re-elected as a Democratic-Republican after stating his opposition to Prime Minister Diana Jeong. Wright would be defeated in the 2016 Sierran federal election by Adrian Justice.
Wright would again switch parties in 2018, becoming a member of the Christian Democratic Party. He would attempt to regain his old seat during the 2020 snap election but would be defeated by Royalist incumbent Adrian Justice. In early 2020, Wright would declare his candidacy for governor of Gold Coast, winning the Christian Democratic primary in August. He ran against incumbent Royalist Martin Louis King, Jr. and Democratic-Republican Antonio Zaragoza and came in third place winning 17.8% of the popular vote. Wright had outperformed compared to his standing in opinion polls and has earned the highest number of votes of any Christian Democratic candidate for the governorship in the Gold Coast's history.

In the 2008 Sierran federal election, he would for re-election this time on the Democratic-Republican ticket. 2020 gubernatorial campaign
