The attorney general of the Kingdom of Sierra (AG) is the official head of the Ministry of Justice, the chief law enforcement officer in the Kingdom of Sierra and the principal legal advisor to the prime minister. A cabinet-level position, the attorney general is the chief legal advisor in Sierra and is the highest-ranking legal officer in the country and is responsible for overseeing the Sierran judicial system and all matters of federal law.

Under the K.S. Constitution, the position of attorney general is one that is nominated by the prime minister themselves and the officeholder requires both the approval from the prime minister to secure their appointment and advice and consent from the Senate in order to assume the office. The officeholder is supported by the Office of the Attorney General, which includes several staff members and deputies and is supported by the deputy attorney general who will assume the office if the current holder is incapable of fufilling their duties.

The current attorney general is Rihanna Salas who has been serving in office since December 2, 2022.

History

Parliament passed the National Judiciary Act of 1858 which, among other things, formally established a new federal judiciary to replace the one inherited from the former California Republic and established the office of the attorney general. The office was to serve as the chief legal advisor to the federal government and was to "prosecute and conduct all suits in the Supreme Court". Many of its original functions and responsibilities were those inherited from the previous position, Attorney General of the California Republic, which was modeled after the position of attorney general in the United States. Many of its responsibilities have since been transfered over to other departments or institutions and in 1890, the attorney general was made responsible for the oversight of the federal judiciary and as chief legal advisor on matters on federal law and law enforcement through the Judiciary Act of 1890.

The Ministry of Justice was established around the same time the office of the attorney general was created in order to better organize the judicial system, enusre proper oversight and administration over the judiciary, and aid in the both the enforcement of laws and upholding the rule of law in the country. The Office of the Attorney General was created around this time and its current structure established in 1890.

Within the cabinet, the attorney general is seen as one of the most important positions along with the Minister of Defense, Minister of Foreign Affairs, and the Surgeon General due to its role in domestic policy and in terms of the development and enforcement of laws and legal development within the country along with its political impact domestically.

The title of "attorney general" is an example of a noun (attorney) which is followed by a postpositive adjective (general). The title of "general" is a description of the type of attorney rather than a title or rank in of itself like in the military. Even though the attorney general is often referred to as "General" or "General [last name]" by senior government officials, this is considered incorrect by Sierran English usage. As a result, the correct plural announciation is "attorneys general" instead of "attorney generals".
