Canada is a constitutional kingdom in North America. It seceded from the British Commonwealth in 1936, refusing the abdication of Edward VIII.

History

For millennia, Canada was inhabited by Inuits and other indigenous people.

In 1159 AD, Icelandic Vikings made a colony to Somerset Island, which grew over time. Finally in 1596, English army defeated the Ashcoe colony and started to colonize other parts of modern-day Canada.

While some parts were conquered by USWA in its early days, the borders of Canada were stabilized to their current location in War of 1812. However, British started to lose control, and after the Nunavut Uprising of 1859, they were forced to give civil rights to the Inuit and independence to Canada. However, Nova Scotia remained in British hands and the whole land remained in a personal union.

The next major change happened in 1936, when king Edward VIII of the United Kingdom abdicated in all of his realms because of marrying a divorcée. Nevertheless, liberal Canadians did not care, whether they had a divorcée as a queen or not, and refused to acknowledge the abdication. Impressed with this, king Edward pulled back his abdication from Canadian throne, and became king Edward I of Canada.

The new king of United Kingdom, George VI, was not satisfied with this, and got the British Parliament to declare war against Canada. The consequence, Canadian War, lasted until 1939, when the start of World War II disrupted political scenes and forced the United Kingdom to recognize Edward as Canadian king.

The government of Canada was hesitating to enter the war on either side in the beginning, but after George's promise of giving Nova Scotia to Canadians, Canada joined the Allied side in 1941. Finally, in 1948, the war ended, and Nova Scotia was united with Canada.

The laws about succession to the Canadian throne were altered in a way that UK and Canada could never have the same monarch. Therefore, when Edward died in 1972 having no issue, the crown passed to Margaret, sister of British monarch Elisabeth II. Her son, David I, got the throne in 2002.
