Tropical Terror takes place on Earth in the year 2059. In this timeline, decades of man-made climate change have reached a tipping point, raising temperatures of the oceans to levels much higher than in the present and creating significantly more moisture over them. This combines with a strong La Niña to produce almost unrealistic levels of tropical cyclone activity within the Atlantic Ocean.
