China (Chinese: 中國; pinyin: Zhōngguó), officially the Republic of China, is a country in East Asia. With a population exceeding 1.4 billion, it is the world's most populous country. It is also the world's third-largest country by land area, bordering 14 countries. The country is divided into 23 provinces, five special administrative divisions, and eight special municipalities.
