China (Chinese: 中國; pinyin: Zhōngguó), officially the Republic of China (Chinese: 中華民國; pinyin: Zhōnghuá Mínguó), is a country in East Asia. It is the world's most populous country, with a population of more than 1.4 billion. China spans five geographical time zones and covers over 6.7 million square kilometers. It is comprised of 19 provinces and four special-status municipalities. The country shares land borders with Yettishar to the west, Tibet, Assam, and India to the southwest, Vietnam, Myanmar and Laos to the south, Russia and Mongolia to the north, and Korea to the east. It shares maritime borders with Japan at Taiwan Strait, as well as Nusantara, and Kapatiran in the South China Sea.
