Combine obstetrostasis disease 2001 (COD-01) is a contagious disease caused by the biological unit introduced by the Combine into the environment called the Sackticks. The first known case of the Combine Suppression Virus was dated during the Combine reconstruction of City-17, as Wallace Breen had proposed an idea that would allow for the completely and reproductive control of the human race by the Combine. This, however, does not affect other animals or plants like how it affects humans as in felines and canines, their breeding rates are much higher and ovulation periods much longer from 24 hours to 3.5 days in cats after induced infections by the Sackticks. Most resistance scientists believe the Sackticks were previously their own species before becoming one of the Combines many biological weapons that they have used against humans. Social and environmental factors including climate change, natural ecosystem destruction, and wildlife trade increased zoonotic spillover, but in other animals exhibiting the Suppression virus, it has the opposite effect.
The symptoms of COD-01 are variable, but often include fever, fatigue, numbness in reproductive areas, coughing, loss of smell, and loss of taste for a short period of about a week to a month before regular conditions for the body begin to take place, acting almost as a common cold as the sacktick successfully burrows itself into the human penis in the preputal gland or the vaginal interior in the fallopian tubes. Symptoms may begin immediately after the sacktick comes into contact with mucus glands, which activates the bodies formication feeling as it travels it down to the vaginal or penile areas for infection. Of those who develop symptoms noticeable enough to be classified as a danger to health, little will develop severe symptoms; respiratory failure, circulatory failure (if the sacktick clamps down on a vein on accident, which occurs 5% of the time). Older people, having already gone through menopause or andropause, are largely unaffected by the COD-01 virus as it has no system to affect, and the sacktick later dies due to the inactivity of these areas. Some complications with reproductive issues can lead to death in a Infinitesimally small amount of cases, and damage to organs other than reproductive ones are incredibly rare. Multi-year studies are underway to further investigate the long-term effects of the disease throughout the entire lifespan of an infected individual.
COD-01 transmission occurs when infectious particulate end up on the skin or in any vein in the body. The risk is highest when people are in close proximity, especially in sexual scenarios involving reproduction. Transmission also can occur when hands remain unwashed from prior usage for sexual contact or self-gratifying activities like masturbation. The particulate left by COD-01 can survive on surfaces or objects for many days into weeks, and people in contact or already infected with the Combine suppression virus remain contagious up until their deaths, as the disease is completely incurable and is life-long. Testing methods for COD-01 to detect the virus inside the preputal or fallopian glands are done at Combine immigration centers that have been constructed in the hundreds of occupational cities designated as such by the Combine. Sexual contact and activities are reported by the sacktick as a sort of "detection" system for the Combine for rule-breaking citizens as "non-disclosed reproductive cycles" are punishable by a year of community service.
Several studies by resistance scientists have stated before that circumvention of the sacktick systems is possible and has been successfully done in the past, although it has taken a bit of effort as every coded sacktick is unique for each individual infected person. Other preventative measures include physical or social distancing, quarantining, and constant cleaning of surfaces that have come into contact with fluids relating to reproduction. While drugs have been developed to sooth the pain of the virus, the primary treatment is still under development, managing the disease through numbing of the penile or vaginal areas every six months is important for the situations of the resistance fighters that have been infected by the sackticks as sometimes it can debilitate them unintentionally as the sackticks have a problem of almost "seizing" and clamping on veins in both regions.
