The Constitutional Democratic Party of Russia (Russian: Конституционно-демократическая партия России, romanized: Konstitutsionno-Demokraticheskaya Partiya Rossii), or more commonly referred to as the Kadets or the Constitutional Democrats (, is a major liberal conservative and Christian democratic political party in the Russian Federative Republic. With around eight million members, the Constitutional Democratic Party is the largest active political party in Russia and is the largest among right-leaning political parties. Because of this the Kadets are a big tent party for those right of center, with its members ranging from center-right moderate conservatives to hard right-wing national conservatives.
The Constitutional Democratic Party traces its origins to the founding in 1905 of the Party of People's Freedoms. Its original platform promoted consisted of transforming the Russian Empire into a constitutional monarchy and promoting liberal and pluralist ideas. Following the Russian Civil War, the party became a major political force within the Russian Republic. The party was officially banned following the formation of the Russian Derzhava, with many of its prominent leaders being arrested. The party continued to operate outside of Russia, and was formally re-established following the Great War and the establishment of the Russian Democratic Republic. During the premiership of Nikolai Kozyrev between 1960 and 1976, the Kadets became the leading political party in Russia and oversaw the rebuilding of postwar Russia into a successful social market economy and a close ally of the West through the Northern Treaty Organization and the European Community during the 1960s and 1970s. By the 1980s, the party began declining in popularity, but in the 21st century it remains the single largest Russian political party.
The party is characterized as liberal conservative and Orthodox Christian-oriented, and is the largest right-leaning political party in Russia. Although it has lacked a cohesive ideology, the Constitutional Democratic Party also has hard-right national conservative factions, which have gradually grown in recent elections. The party is generally pro-European, supporting Russian membership in the European Community. The party also supports closer relations with North American nations and entities, such as the Kingdom of Sierra and the Conference of American States. It supports a "socially conscious market economy" with limited government intervention or labor regulations, but with a small welfare state. Since 2016, the Constitutional Democratic Party has maintained a plurality of seats in both chambers of the Federal Assembly, with party leader Vladislav Nevzorov serving as prime minister since 2016.
