The Continental Armed Forces are the combined military forces of the United Commonwealth. It comprises of of six service branches—Army, Navy, Marine Corps, Coast Guard, and Space Force—along with the Continental Revolutionary Guard and the Continental State Police. It is led by the Joint Staff of the Central Military Commission.
Each branch of the Continental Armed Forces is assigned a different role and domain as part of their overall mission of protecting the United Commonwealth; The Army conducts land-based military operations, the Navy and Marine Corps both carry out maritime operations, the Marine Corps specializes in expeditionary and amphibious warfare in support of the Navy and its operations, the Air Force conducts air-based operations, and the Space Force is responsible for conducting military operations in space. The Coast Guard is unique among the military as it both specializes in maritime operations and functions as a law enforcement agency as well, one of two along with the Continental State Police.
Outside of the main service branches also exists the Continental Revolutionary Guard, the military wing of the ruling Continentalist Party, which is both a branch of the Continental Armed Forces while also possessing its own branches that specialize in separate operations and domains with their own separate structure similar to that of the conventional military.
From its original inception during the American Revolutionary War, the Continental Armed Forces has been one of the most influential forces in the country's history, having helped forge a sense of national identity and unity throughout its long history and changes starting with the first overseas conflict in the Barbary Wars in North Africa. The modern Continental Armed Forces traces its origins to the War of Contingency among elements of the Union Army forced from states that remained loyal during the Contingency War and played a key role in the territorial integrity and expansion of the country. The current Continental Armed Forces was formed in 1921 after the Continental Revolutionary War where its role in ensuring the success of the revolution was praised and played a role in both continuing the tradition of building a sense of national unity and pride as well as playing a role in the spread of Landonism worldwide.
