Arizona is a state in the Southwestern United States and is the most populous in region, with an estimated population of 12.5 million spread over 183,247 square miles of land. Arizona is the third largest state in the country by area.
Population
As of the 2020 census, Arizona had a population of 12,561,034 and a population density of 68.5 people per square mile. The majority racial group in the state is White, making up 49.3% of the total population. Asians are the second largest racial group, making up 39.5% of the population. Multiracial Americans and Native Americans make up 8.8% and 2.4% of the population, respectively.
Immigration from outside the United States, principally from the Asia-Pacific region and Mexico, since 2005 resulted in a net increase of 198,892 people, making it the fastest growing state in the country. The state also has the largest percentage of legal residents from any race or ethnicity that are born in the United States, at 87.3%.
As of 2018, there are an estimated 66,192 undocumented immigrants, mostly from Central America, in the state.

White Americans
White Americans make up 49.3% of the population of Arizona, making them the majority.
European Americans
White Americans with ancestry from Europe make up just over 62% of the total white population in the state. Most European Americans in Arizona have ancestry from the British Isles (38.3%), France (33.2%), and the Netherlands (25.6%). The rest have ancestry from Spain, Portugal, Denmark, and Hungary.
Hispanic and Latino Americans
Hispanic and Latino Americans who identify as White come in at roughly 35%. Most White Hispanics and Latinos have ancestry from Mexico and Argentina, with smaller groups from Brazil and Peru.
Afrikaner Americans
Arizona has the largest population of Afrikaner Americans, who originate from South Africa. Making up around 3% of the total White population, they are largely concentrated in the Sonora County.
