Dukes in the Kingdom of Sierra
Duke, in the Kingdom of Sierra, is the highest-ranking hereditary title in all five peerages of the Kingdom of Sierra. A duke outranks all other holders of titles of nobility including marquis, earl/count, viscount, and baron.
The wife of a duke is known as a duchess, which is also the title of a woman who holds a dukedom in her own right, referred to as a duchess suo jure. Her husband may receive a title jure uxoris. In the Sierran order of precedence, non-royal dukes without state offices or positions take precedence before all other nobility, in order of date of creation, but after royalty and certain officers of the state. In the Kingdom of Sierra, the monarch is the only authority capable of creating and bestowing titles of nobility. There are currently 38 dukedoms.
