The Rt. Hon. Sir Frederick Alexander Eccles, CMG, PC was the 6th Prime Minister of Georgeland. Eccles served as Prime Minister for two separate terms. Eccles is chiefly remembered for the 1928 referendum on Georgeland's leaving the Commonwealth and establishing a republic. Eccles opposed this measure, but the referendum, held concurrently with the 1928 federal election, resulted in a narrow victory for the republican movement. Eccles initially planned not to honour the result but pressure from the opposition Labour Party, which at that time still controlled the Senate, forced him to accede to the republican movement's demands and establish the Republic of Georgeland on July 1, 1929.
Eccles is remembered very much as an "old school Tory" and even during his term of office was seen as old-fashioned and somewhat aloof. He first came to office after the death of David Turner having served as Minister for Finance. His party lost the 1924 election to Labour but regained power in 1928. Eccles died in office of a heart attack in 1932 at the age of seventy-five. He is Georgeland's oldest Prime Minister.
