Great Britain, officially known as the Socialist Commonwealth of Great Britain is a Socialist state in western Europe lying off the north-western coast of the European mainland. It consists of the island of Great Britain and a large number of smaller outlying islands. Completely surrounded by the Atlantic Ocean, with the North Sea to its north and east, the English Channel to its south, and the Irish Sea to its south-west, Britain borders no other sovereign states. Its closest neighbours are the Irish Republic across the Irish Sea to the west and the Kingdom of France across the English Channel to the south. Following the Apocalypse, the "Communist Party of Britain (Marxist–Leninist)" formed the Birmingham Commune, a provisional Socialist government in the largest city in Britain that wasn't nuked, Birmingham. (London and Manchester were nuked.)
Post-Apoc History
Soon after the rise and medium-sized expansion of the Commune into Coventry, Leicester, Nottingham, Derby, and Worcester, it found itself in a conflict with the Sheffield Government (Officially "His Majesty's Imperial Restoration Government (HMIRG)", which wanted to restore the former United Kingdom and eventually the British Empire. This started the Birmingham-Sheffield War, which Birmingham won in about 4.5 months.
The Birmingham Commune became the People's Commune of England, and swiftly took out the minor warlords in South England. The English invasion of Scotland started the British Civil War, which the Commune won, forming the Socialist Commonwealth of Great Britain, and starting the Six Year Plan. The primary goal of the Six Year Plan was to prepare Britain for possible future conflict by achieving economic self-sufficiency, especially in key industries and resources. Military spending was increased, industries were nationalized, the workplace was democratized, and infrastructure was developed further. Rather than banning all opposition parties, the Commonwealth started a similar system to the Pre-Apocalypse DPRK, where there were a few Leftist parties in a ruling united front. This were (and still are) the Communist Party of Britain, Labour Party, People Before Profit, Social Democratic Party, and Women's Equality Party, however, the Communist Party is the ruling and largest party in the front. This front is known as the "British People's United Front." Anyway, a year later, the six year plan ended, and the economy was the best in Western-Central Europe, and Britain was flourishing. Today, Great Britain is one of the members of the Sixth International, and is close allies with Russia and Peru.
