and the Shanghai Pact. The conflict is the first that was fought almost entirely in space, with only a few minor battles occurring on Earth itself.
In the preceding decades, the nations of Earth had rapidly expanded into the inner solar system. Many settlements on Luna and Mars were formed while large shipments of resources were transported back to Earth. The most powerful nations, the North American Commonwealth and People's Federation Of China, had the largest interplanetary colonies in the system. For the last century, the two nations had formed large blocs and were competing with one another and gaining more influence and territory on the Moon, Mars and the Asteroid Belt. Both nations had built large warships, which allowed them to control the various trade routes through the system. Beginning in the 2120s, skirmishes by both nations had started, and tensions rose between Washington and Beijing. This culminated in the Battle Of New Maine, which led to Chinese Chairman Zhang Zhonghua sending an ultimatum to the NAC. the NAC's President, Lucas Joseph, refused it, leading to a declaration of war by China.
An American fleet fired the opening shots of the war with a fleet battle againist the Chinese Fleet. The Battle Of Ceres saw the first use of Exoships in military use and saw both sides losing 4 warships. America had a total of 24 warships while China had 16. While numerically inferior, the Chinese fleet saw great success in the early stages of the war, engaging and defeating the enemy fleet 3 times in only 3 weeks. America responded with the devastating Battle Of Xianying, which saw the first combined orbital and interplanetary assault by Humanity. Fearing a Chinese defeat and the expansion of American influence in the Solar System, The Eurasian Union joined the war with an invasion of the American colony of John Adams Land on the moon.
On Earth, oceanic navies went on high alert. On 15th January 2133, NAC naval units clashed with Chinese forces at the Battle Of Okinawa, leading to nuclear weapons nearly being used. Japan, concerned with the safety of its lunar colonies,
