High-yield laser

Template:Tech Technologies have been developed that are far more effective at superheating their way through things than lasers from the previous centuries. The term for it is the high-yield laser, and holds true to the original conception of a "heat ray", capable of melting its way past armor. This is rather easy to intercept by any defending vessel surrounded by Bose-Einstein condensate. It is still perhaps the weakest of the energy variety of weapons. Lasers have also been found to create a degenerative field upon impact that weakens their effect when their exposure is prolonged. Smaller craft will have been destroyed before that point. However, the laser does not have the staying power to burn through the harder armor of larger vessels, making it unsuitable for warpships frigate and larger.
