Horia-Andrei Roman (born January 6, 2166) is a theoretical astrophysicist and the permanent Co-Chairman of the Alpha Centauri Initiative, best known for his perfection of Miguel Alcubierre's warp drive, through which a starship could achieve speed exceeding that of light.
Roman gained prominence in the scientific community immediately after conclusively harnessing exotic matter in an efficient way, later conducting more experiments towards achieving a fully functioning warp bubble. His achievements were quickly put in use by the UN government, while his project of exploring and colonizing Alpha Centauri was accepted.
In 2214, Roman was one of the one million colonists aboard the ACI colony ships, which left Sol for the nearest star system with an estimated voyage time of three years, due to precaution measures restricting the warp drives to no more than 1.4-1.5c.
