The Imperial Simulacrum (3E 389–399) occurred when Chancellor Jagar Tharn betrayed and secretly imprisoned Emperor Uriel Septim VII, then used illusion magic to masquerade as the Emperor for a decade. Imperial authority declined under the Simulacrum, resulting in a series of provincial wars.
