The Joint Forces Pact (JFP), also referred to as the Joint Forces Treaty Organization, was a multi-governmental space agency tasked with conducting the Martian colonization. The organization was established in 2054, as means to convince the superpowers and major powers of Earth to collaborate and fasten progress concerning a permanent and populous Martian settlement. Eventually, the entirety of Earth joined the JFP, with the exception of Armenia and New Zealand, two countries heavily against the homogenization of the planet.

Following the federal unification of the United Nations in 2101, the agency was disbanded and replaced by the Space Exploration and Colonization Agency (SECA), an advanced space agency acting as a branch of the UN government.

History

The Joint Forces Pact came into existence as a result of the Treaty of Berlin, signed in 2054. It started its life as a loose association of several national and private space agencies, which later saw the full fusion of the member organizations.

As more and more countries were acceding to the JFP, the multi-national agency was directly linked with the United Nations. While the President of the JFP remained the leader of the organization's governing body, he was de facto subordinated to the Secretary-General. This hierarchy became de jure in 2079, after the Treaty of Lisbon took force.

The JFP was then disbanded in 2101, when the United Nations was installed as the federal government of the planet.

Administration

The Joint Forces Pact's executive hierarchy was governed by its president, which represented the highest position in the JFP's governing body.

After the president came the vice-president, an office usually fulfilled by the president's closest partner. De jure, he wielded nearly supreme executive power just below his superior, however his functions were often suppressed by the Secretary-General of the UN, in order to avoid any power fluctuations and assure the domination of the JFP solely by the president.

The JFP was divided into three major branches: aerospace and astronautics, surface geography and the resources branch. Each branch was overseen by a governor that was the direct subordinate of the presidential office.
