The Kettlebath League also known as the Kettlebath Confederacy is a human domain located at the mouth of the Kettlebath River and along the shores of Dartmouth Lake. It is bordered by the hinterlands of Psalms Range, Drake Forest and the populated lands of the Duchy of Kettlebath. It is a loose confederation of small communities unified in their opposition to the Duchy of Kettlebath, headed by a legislative executive known as the Tribune of Consent, comprised of the elected and hereditarily leaders of the various communities. It is comprised of two counties, three independent cities and one duchy. Its largest city is Dartmouth-on-Kettlebath, the opposing city of Wallace-on-Kettlebath.
The settlements of the Kettlebath League were established during the Emergency, by the lieutenants of the diety-like figure Tecumseh, subordinate to the great city of Mathisia. it was established as a port processing the goods sent down from the Aposoum Valley, and was a strategically important point for human civilization. Growing a great deal of grain and corn for the Emergency, the settlements were classified as apart of the Sycamore-Kettlebath corridor. Throughout the second century, various droughts and internal conflicts caused the fracturing of the Mathisia's supremacy. Kettlebath's most elite landowners led the Kettlebath War of Independence in opposition to a series of land reforms, seeking to preserve their near monopoly of some of the most agriculturally productive land in the Sycamore-Kettlebath corridor. These communities remained mostly unified, until the introduction of the Nebine plague in the middle-to-late fifth century. Roughly half of the settlements population and livestock were decimated by the sickness. Declining in importance, the agricultural machinery of the Mystic era rendered useless by the First Sunburst led to the total destruction of societal order. Farmers abandoned their homesteads and the various cities vanished as hundreds of thousands died.
During the Dark era, some families returned to agricultural production. Various communities continued to war amongst one another, fighting for food and resources. Craftmanship and civility returned as small states were reestablished. Internal conflicts among the various communities erupted in the eighth century and decade old family disputes led to a series of massacres known as the First Kettlebath Slaughters. The most egregious murders were preformed by House Orellana of Wallace-on-Kettlebath. In 903 AA, House Orellana established its dominance over the region bringing about a great period of suffering. For roughly two centuries the citizens of Kettlebath were reduced to skin and bones as their rations were reduced each winter. The Memoirs of the Dartmouth Departures outlined the gruesome killings preformed by House Orellana, fueling growing dissent among the various subordinate houses. In 1149 the Mayor of Dartmouth-on-Kettlebath, Bell Sweeny, assembled 10 other families, where they declared a formal grievance against House Orellana. Curtis Orellana launched the Second Kettlebath Slaughters in retaliation, resulting in the murders of thousands. Bell Sweeny led the creation of the Kettlebath League, formally declaring their independence. Since the twelfth century, the Kettlebath League has remained in a state of constant war with the Duchy of Kettlebath and House Orellana. Chief Magistrate and Mayor of Dartmouth-on-Kettlebath, Samspoon Sweeny, currently leads the Kettlebath Confederacy.
