Line of succession
Order of Succession
The line of succession originally used proximity of blood until the succession crisis of 1654, which resulted in a brief civil war between Klavs, Markus III, and Marie. At the war's end, Markus wrote a will asking that all future monarchs be his most senior agnatic descendant. With the creation of the constitution, the line was altered a little but not much:
The king or queen is to be the most senior direct, natural, legitimate descendant of HRM Markus William Nils of Kirkus third of that name to be King of Thorway by way of agnatic primogeniture.
Female direct, natural, legitimate agnatic descendants of said HRM Markus have the right to the throne after their brothers, but not their children (unless they have rights by way of their father).
In the event no agnatic descendant of said HRM Markus exists, the most senior direct, natural, legitimate cognatic descendant of HRM Malthe William Nils of Kirkus sixth of that name to be King of Thorway is to be king or queen.
Because of a greater preference for the queen's son Markus Gerthburg than the queen's cousin Markus Kirkus, the constitution was amended:
The king or queen is to be the most senior direct, natural, legitimate descendant of HRM Markus William Nils of Kirkus seventh of that name to be King of Thorway by way of equal primogeniture.
In the event no direct, natural, legitimate descendant of said HRM Markus exists, the previous paragraph is to be out of effect.
