The National Broadcasting Cooperative (NBC) is a Continental English-language broadcast television and radio network. It is headquartered at NBC Tower in Chicago, with additional offices in Manhattan. Founded in 1926 by the federal government, NBC is the oldest broadcaster in Anglo-America. NBC is sometimes referred to as the "Peacock Network", in reference to its stylized peacock logo, introduced in 1956 to promote the cooperative's innovations in early color broadcasting; it became a part of the network's official emblem in 1979 before being modified to its current form in 1986. NBC maintains close ties with Continental Electric.
History
The oldest major broadcast network in the United States, NBC was founded in 1926 by various radio stations, using technology developed by Continental Electric (CE). Though not a State owned centerprise, NBC made frequent use of Continental iconography. Since the 1930's, NBC has been embroiled in a Broadcasting Cold War with CBS, the biggest broadcaster in the Antilles.
Logos
NBC has used a number of logos throughout its history. Logos used later in NBC's existence incorporated stylized peacock designs, including the current version that has been in use since 1986.
Member stations
NBC stations are commonly operated by workers co-operatives, in which everyone working at the station gets a say in how it's run, though these are not immune to hierarchies, i.e. more experienced producers higher a greater say over decisions.
