The Nera Nelinis System is a quadruple star system located 42.155 light-years from the Ingffhaestian System and 19.2 light-years from the Sun. It is known as Gliese 570 to the human race. It contains four stellar components: the eponymous K-type main sequence orange star Nera Nelinis, the binary red dwarfs Nerinius and Nelgus, and the cool brown dwarf Noll. For such a large system, Nera Nelinis notably lacks a high amount of planets; as a whole, the system only contains seven planets: four orbiting Nera Nelinis and three orbiting Noll.

The Nera Nelinis System contains Ilium, the homeworld of the sentient mammalian Northans and their system-spanning nation, the Dominion of Nera Nelinis. The system was also the final lifebearing system to be conquered by the Kingdom of Kerolon prior to the discovery of Earth. Prior to Kerolon's arrival, the Nera Nelinis System suffered from civil unrest brought about by resource scarcity related to the star system's relative lack of planets. This political unrest culminated in the rise of the authoritarian, dictatorial Orus Foundation, whose charisma brought the entirety of the system under its control. However, a rebellion led by the pacifist Kingdom of Ilo brought about the downfall of Orus. Afterwards, the Dominion of Nera Nelinis formed as a dominion of the Kingdom of Ilo, which promptly committed itself to solving the resource crisis through peace and diplomacy. Though the Kingdom's efforts largely succeeded, the Dominion nonetheless accepted its annexation into the Kingdom of Kerolon in 2005 as a means to acquire more raw resources for its populace.

Structure and Composition

The Nera Nelinis System overall has four main gravitational centers: the stars Nera Nelinis, Nerinius, and Nelgus, as well as the brown dwarf Noll. Nera Nelinis, as the most massive of the four stellar objects, naturally forms the dominant gravitational component of the system, with all objects in the system orbiting it in some form. However, the other three stellar objects also constitute major gravitational centers and host numerous orbiting bodies in their own rights. All four stellar components have compositions dominated by hydrogen and helium, though the system has a slightly higher concentration of metals and heavier elements compared to Earth's Sun.

The one substantial planetary system in Nera Nelinis, which orbits Nera Nelinis itself, follows a layout generally similar to the Solar System's. Terrestrial planets occupy lower orbits while larger giant planets inhabit the outer system. However, Nera Nelinis' planetary system is substantially smaller than the Solar System's, with only three terrestrial planets constituting the inner system and only one gas giant occupying the outer system. Nerinius and Nelgus do not bear any planets due to the close distance between the two stars; their only satellites consist of dwarf planets, asteroids, and comets, which even then are low in number compared to the Solar System. Noll's "planetary" system has a more atypical layout due to the system as a whole behaving more like a moon system of a gas giant than a planetary system of a star.
