Protests have swelled in major cities across Brazoria as the country’s economy begins to slide into recession. The demonstrations were the largest in Austin, where a myriad of political groups have engaged in violent acts against each other and surrounding properties. Anti-CAS affiliates from the political left and right have clashed with both one another and demonstrators supporting CAS and Continentalism in general. Chancellor Bobby Whitmore has condemned the violence as “the work of isolated radicals,” and he further stated that police action might be “necessary” to prevent further acts of violence.

Meanwhile, the HSX 100 took a pounding this morning, losing another 5% in only the first two hours of trading. The Commission for Securities Exchanges has put an indefinite hold on further domestic trading after the index lost another 6% by the end of the day. The Brazorian Central Bank has stated that it will “consider drastic emergency measures in the coming days” on the value of the Dollar after it met 50 year low against both the UC Dollar and the Sierran Dollar. The Minister for Economy, Darien Pitz, released a statement this afternoon calling the panic “an attempt by globalists and corporatists at scaring people out of their true beliefs.”

Polls show that the Green Social Alliance is beginning to decline in general popularity, down by 11% from the 67% support measured yesterday morning follow the Chancellor’s New Years speech. The government has announced that it is currently working on a viable method to reduce the impact of the current economic crisis, and a system of food rationing has been put in place in areas with limited logistical connectivity. A government spokesperson said that the Chancellor’s top priority was the “mitigation of the worst effects faced by the most vulnerable people.”
