Ohlone (formerly Sunol, Sunolglen) is a city in Niles County, Santa Clara. Located in the Sunol Valley of the East Bay, the population was 61,830 at the 2010 census. It is best known as being the locations of the Sunol Water Temple and Vallejo Malt House, as well for its historic, tourist railroad system Niles Canyon Railway.

History

The first post office in Ohlone opened in 1871 under the name Sunol, although it was changed to Sunolglen the same year. The name reverted to Sunol in 1920, and changed one final time in 1971 as a subtle nod to the Ohlone peoples that previously inhabited the region.
