A native to the Inland Empire, Brooke got involved politically in the 1980s in support of public housing and as a political activist in the provincial capital of Riverside where he joined the Green Party of Sierra in 1994. Early life and education
Peter Brooke was born on 17 June 1963 in Riverside, Inland Empire. Both of his parents were members of the National Conservation Society of Sierra and became involved in environmental conservation in his youth starting at the age of nine. After graduating from John W. North High School in 1981, he attended the University of Sierra, Riverside where he studied politics, history, and law. While Brooke was in university, he got involved with local politics in 1984 in support of public housing and increasing access to healthcare. He stated that he became politically leftist while in college through his involvement in local politics. He graduated in 1987 and he joined the National Conservation Society in support of environmentalism and in opposition of environmental degradation. He also supported unions and joined a local dentist union in Riverside.
Brooke studied to become a dentist at the US Riverside School of Dentistry. After obtaining his D.D.S. and license, he began private practice as a full-time dentist in 1990. He worked at a local dental office in Riverside, a city that he continues to live in citing family and personal connections. In the early 1990s, Brooke became more supportive of the Green Party and formally joined the party in 1994 after previously being an unregistered independent.
